Minecraft Dungeons 2 Announced: Release Date This Fall | IGN
Mojang Studios announced the development of Minecraft Dungeons 2 during Saturday’s Minecraft Live showcase, with a planned release in Fall 2026 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The sequel to the 2021 dungeon crawler will feature a new story, locations, and enemies, building upon the action RPG gameplay of the original, according to a statement on the game’s Steam page. “Disorder is brewing, and the world stands before a threat unlike any other,” the description reads. “A new danger is growing in power, ready to descend upon the land and unleash mayhem.”
The original Minecraft Dungeons launched in May 2020 and, despite a modest initial sales performance, reaching 15th place in top-selling games for that month, gained traction with players drawn to its Diablo-inspired gameplay. Mojang supported the game with free updates, including crossplay functionality, and multiple expansion packs before ending active development in 2023, after reaching 25 million players.
Details revealed during Minecraft Live indicate the new installment will offer a larger map and deeper gameplay mechanics. Players will be able to explore previously unseen regions within the Minecraft universe, battle new bosses, and engage in cooperative gameplay with up to three other players. A deeper progression system and increased opportunities for loot collection are also planned.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Players can currently wishlist the game on Steam. Mojang has not yet announced a specific release date within the Fall 2026 window, and has not detailed when further updates, including gameplay footage, will be released.
