A vital natural sanctuary on Brooklyn‘s southern edge,Four Sparrow Marsh Park, is a haven for wildlife, largely due to it’s isolation from urban development. This protected area, one of three nature preserves situated on Brooklyn’s southern tip, boasts a thriving natural habitat that supports a variety of avian species, including bobolinks, snipe, and little blue herons. The park’s diverse landscape features mudflats, marshes, and meadows, contributing to its rich plant life.

NYC Parks Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-rosa highlighted the significance of these salt marshes, stating, “Our salt marshes are critical ecosystems that do so much for our city-from protecting our coastline in the face of extreme weather, to offering vital habitats for non-human New Yorkers like salt marsh sparrows and diamondback terrapins.”
