Military Plans Leak: Hegseth’s Signal Messages Reveal Classified Defense Data

Classified defense data, including details on military operations in Yemen, was reportedly shared via a Signal messaging conversation involving U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, according to CNN.

An investigation launched in April by the PentagonS surveillance organization into Hegseth’s use of the encrypted messaging app has uncovered evidence that the information discussed was indeed confidential. Sources close to the matter revealed that a document from the U.S. Central Command, marked “secret/noforn” – meaning it was not to be shared with foreign nationals – was part of the exchange.

This finding directly challenges Hegseth’s previous statements that no classified material was disseminated in the Signal conversation. He had attributed the inclusion of certain individuals, including The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg, to an inadvertent addition.

The conversation reportedly included several prominent figures from the Trump governance, such as vice President JD Vance and former national Security Advisor Michael Waltz. This incident follows a separate report from late April alleging that Hegseth had shared similar sensitive information in another Signal conversation that included his wife and lawyer.

The implications of such disclosures extend beyond immediate security concerns, highlighting ongoing debates about the secure handling of classified information in the digital age and the potential vulnerabilities of encrypted communication platforms when used by high-ranking officials. Understanding these protocols is crucial for maintaining national security and public trust.
