Miley Cyrus Releases Song Reflecting on Family Dynamics, Dedicates ’Secrets‘ to Billy Ray Cyrus
LOS ANGELES, CA – Miley Cyrus has released a new song, “Secrets,” which she says is a direct reflection of her evolving relationship with her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus, following their divorce and subsequent remarriages. The track, part of her Somthing Gorgeous Deluxe album released this month, marks a turning point in how Cyrus views her parents – shifting from a child’s outlook to an adult understanding of their individual happiness.
Cyrus explained that for a long time, she internalized her mother’s pain during her marriage to Billy Ray, especially given the challenges of being married to someone in the music industry while not being involved in it herself. “I took on some of my mom’s hurt as my own as it hurt her more than it hurt me as an adult, and so I owned a lot of her pain,” she said.Though, witnessing both her mother’s marriage to Dominic Purcell and her father’s relationship with Elizabeth Hurley allowed her to reframe her perspective.
“But now that my mom is so in love with my stepdad, who I completely adore, and now that my dad, I see him finding happiness, too – I can love them both as individuals rather of as a parental pairing,” Cyrus added. She emphasized the importance of allowing her parents to find their own bliss, acknowledging that it took time for her “child self” to catch up with that understanding.
The singer described the process as “being an adult about it,” and recognizing that her father, like everyone else, “deserves to be in his bliss and to be happy.” “Secrets” is included on the Something Beautiful Deluxe edition, an expanded version of her album originally released in May.
