Miley Cyrus: Hannah Montana Reunion & Family Reconciliation After 20 Years
Los Angeles – Miley Cyrus and her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, reunited on the set of the original “Hannah Montana” as part of a 20th-anniversary special set to debut on Disney+ Tuesday, March 24, 2026, marking a significant moment after a period of reported family discord.
The special features Miley revisiting the iconic Malibu beach house set, briefly donning the blonde wig associated with her character, Hannah Montana. A trailer released earlier this month showed Miley and Billy Ray recreating their signature “booty bump” handshake, a tradition that originated during Miley’s audition process for the series, as Billy Ray recalled in an Instagram post on March 10.
The reunion comes after a period of strained family relations stemming from Billy Ray’s divorce from Miley’s mother, Tish Cyrus, in April 2022, and Tish’s subsequent marriage to Dominic Purcell in August 2023. Rumors of a rift between Miley and her father circulated, fueled by Miley’s omission of him during her 2024 Grammy acceptance speech and her public acknowledgment of her mother as her “hero” in the months following. Miley addressed the situation in May 2025, stating that she and her father had experienced “challenges” but were not on terrible terms.
The Disney+ special also includes appearances by Tish Cyrus, who served as a producer on the project, and features a gaze back at old photos from the demonstrate. Miley described the anniversary as being “for them, it’s for us,” referring to the show’s fans.
In an interview with “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper, Miley Cyrus emphasized the importance of her relationship with her father, stating, “I’m really excited for him to be here, because I know how much our relationship means to everyone that watched this show. I think when me and my dad are decent, people, they experience better. It just feels good when the Cyruses are getting along.”
The original “Hannah Montana” series, which aired from 2006 to 2011, catapulted Miley Cyrus to stardom. The show centered on Miley Stewart, a teenager leading a double life as a pop star. Billy Ray Cyrus played her on-screen father, Robby Ray Stewart.
Miley Cyrus released a new song, “Younger You,” in conjunction with the anniversary special, reportedly referencing the importance of family connections with the lyric, “Don’t forget to call your mama and papa.”
