Milan-Cortina 2026: Live Updates & France’s Medal Chances Today

The men’s biathlon pursuit began at 11:15 AM local time today in Anterselva, Italy, as the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo reached its midpoint. France is hoping to surpass its record of 15 medals achieved in both the 2014 Sochi Games and the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.

Today’s events also include the mixed team snowboard cross in Livigno and the men’s ski relay in Tofane. France is targeting podium finishes in all three events, according to live coverage from France Télévisions and Eurosport.

The 2026 Winter Olympics, officially the XXV Olympic Winter Games, are being held across Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. The dual-city bid was selected on June 24, 2019, at the 134th session of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland. This marks the return of the Winter Games to Italy for the first time since Turin hosted in 2006 and to Cortina d’Ampezzo after 70 years, having previously hosted in 1956.

Competition is taking place at established venues for each sport, including Bormio and Livigno for alpine skiing, Antholz-Anterselva for biathlon, and Val di Fiemme for cross-country skiing. The Eugenio-Monti track in Cortina d’Ampezzo is hosting the bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton events.

As of today, February 15, 2026, 93 countries are participating in the Games, with a total of 2,917 athletes – 1,553 men and 1,364 women. There are 8 sports, 16 disciplines, and 116 events being contested.

The opening ceremony, presided over by Italian President Sergio Mattarella, took place on February 6, 2026. The Games are scheduled to conclude on February 22, 2026.
