Anderlecht Nears Deal for Bologna’s Mihajlo Ilic to Close Transfer Window
Brussels, Belgium – September 8, 2025 – Anderlecht is on the verge of securing Mihajlo Ilic, a 22-year-old serbian forward from Bologna, as they look to bolster their attack and potentially prepare for a future without striker Jan Vertonghen. The deal is being facilitated by Sporting Director Olivier Renard’s strong relationship with the Italian club, built during his time at CF Montreal – both clubs are owned by Joey Saputo and have a history of player exchanges.
Ilic, currently under contract with Bologna after being recruited from Partizan Belgrade a year ago, spent last season on loan at his former club. While Bologna doesn’t currently see him as ready for Serie A, they are open to a transfer. The player has reportedly given his approval to join Anderlecht.
The pursuit of ilic comes after Anderlecht explored several attacking options in the Netherlands, Portugal, and Turkey. ukrainian forward Danylo Sikan, 24, of trabzonspor was a primary target, but negotiations stalled due to disagreements over the terms of a loan and purchase option, and also the player’s salary.Anderlecht is also anticipating a potential departure of Jan Vertonghen in January, with Lazio expressing interest. However, the Italian club’s current offer doesn’t meet Anderlecht’s valuation of the player.
Meanwhile, Anderlecht is holding firm on several players. Mats Rits and Yari Verschaeren are not expected to leave, and Majeed Ashiméu’s situation remains complicated, with a potential move hinging on a turkish offer. Thomas Foket and Alexis Flips are currently unavailable for transfer due to ongoing physical issues.
Given the limited attacking depth, Anderlecht anticipates significant offers for midfielder Lucas Stroeykens from Saudi Arabian clubs in the coming days.
