Miguelturra Socialist group proposes monthly infant school payments
Miguelturra faces calls to drop quarterly infant school billing
Families in Miguelturra could see relief from heavy lump-sum childcare bills if a new municipal proposal succeeds. During the Ordinary Plenary on October 15, the Socialist Municipal Group of Miguelturra proposed that the local government return to a monthly payment system for municipal infant schools. According to the Grupo Municipal Socialista de Miguelturra and Diario de Miguelturra, the measure aims to alleviate the financial burden on households currently facing single charges reaching 800 euros under the existing quarterly billing cycle.
Liquidity gaps hit households amid seasonal costs
The shift toward quarterly billing has created acute liquidity gaps for households across the municipality. The Socialist group reported receiving complaints from parents who recently faced bills covering four months of service instead of three. These large outlays frequently coincide with other fixed monthly costs, such as mortgages and utility bills, alongside seasonal expenses related to the start of the school year.
The Socialist group argues that the current system forces families to absorb significant costs in a single transaction. By distributing these payments monthly, the group claims families could better plan their budgets and avoid the accumulation of high-value receipts. The proposal emphasizes that the goal is not to alter the actual cost of the public service, but to modify the payment cadence to make it more compatible with daily household expenses.

Socialist group seeks to facilitate payments for families
“We understand that the care and education of the youngest children represents a significant expense for many families and that, therefore, it is necessary to facilitate, as far as possible, the payment of this public service,” the Socialist group stated.
Administrative review requested for payment reversal
The Socialist Municipal Group has formally asked the government team to study the feasibility of returning to the monthly system that existed previously. This request includes an evaluation of the administrative adjustments necessary to implement the change. The group stated its commitment to ensuring that municipal services remain accessible and that government decisions reflect the actual economic needs of the citizens.
The current dispute centers on the impact of extraordinary disbursements. When a quarterly bill extends to four months, the resulting 800-euro charge becomes a substantial percentage of the monthly disposable income for families with multiple children. The Socialists maintain that municipal management must account for the economic reality of the residents to prevent public services from becoming a source of financial instability.
Next steps for the municipal government
The proposal now awaits a response from the Miguelturra government team regarding the administrative viability of the monthly payment return.
