Ecuadorian Link Alleged in Attack on Colombian Senator

Authorities are investigating the alleged involvement of individuals in Ecuador in the attempted assassination of Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay. The investigation suggests the crime’s origins might stretch across borders, raising concerns about regional criminal networks.

Accusations Point to Ecuador

A suspect, Carlos Eduardo Mora González, apprehended in connection to the assault, stated that the orders originated from Ecuador. He claimed his superior, identified as “El Costeño,” received directives from “El Churto,” who is reportedly based in Ecuador.

Ecuadorian Response and Implications

Following Mora González’s statements, the focus has shifted to identifying “El Churto”. Authorities are considering whether this individual is a major drug trafficker or a false name to conceal the true orchestrator.

The revelation that Ecuador may be the source of the attack has brought up the murder of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio in August 2023. It was determined that the Los Lobos criminal band planned that crime.

The authorities in Colombia are requesting protection for the accused in Uribe Turbay’s case. This is because the alleged hitmen in the Villavicencio case died under suspicious circumstances while in custody.
