Microsoft Delays Fable: Latest Release Date and Game Pass Updates
Microsoft has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated reboot of the Fable franchise will not meet its original 2025 release window. The title, currently in development at Playground Games, has been rescheduled for a global launch in February 2026.
The decision to shift the release date follows months of industry speculation regarding the project’s timeline. While recent activity—including classification filings in South Korea and Australia—had fueled internal and public anticipation for an imminent release, the publisher has opted for a longer development cycle. This adjustment ensures that the studio has additional time to finalize the production of the open-world RPG, which serves as a flagship title for the Xbox Game Studios portfolio.

The delay comes as Microsoft continues to manage a crowded release calendar for its subscription-based Game Pass service. While the Fable reboot remains the most prominent project in the franchise’s recent history, other titles under the Xbox umbrella are moving through different stages of their release cycles. Specifically, Clockwork Revolution, developed by inXile Entertainment, is currently positioned as a significant upcoming addition to the platform, with reports indicating it may arrive on Game Pass sooner than the rescheduled Fable.
Playground Games, known primarily for its work on the Forza Horizon series, assumed the development lead on Fable to bring a new iteration of the fantasy series to modern hardware. The project represents a significant investment for Microsoft, which has sought to revitalize its legacy intellectual properties through high-budget studio collaborations.
Despite the shift in the Fable schedule, Microsoft has not updated the broader release roadmap for its internal studios. The February 2026 date now serves as the primary target for the title, with the company maintaining its current development strategy for its remaining 2025 and 2026 software slate. Further details regarding the specific launch date and feature sets are expected to be disclosed by the publisher as the new release window approaches.
