Microsoft is directing users experiencing account recovery issues to a specific form after acknowledging limitations with direct support channels. The company stated that, due to security protocols, assistance via chat or community forums is unavailable for account recovery requests.
Instead, Microsoft is advising affected individuals to utilize the account recovery form located at https://aka.ms/recovermyaccount. The form requests detailed information to verify account ownership, including approximate creation dates, previously used passwords, associated phone numbers or email addresses, and typical sign-in locations. A dedicated section asks users to explain why they believe they are the legitimate owners of the account, emphasizing the importance of precise and consistent details.
Following submission, users can expect a response, typically within 15 minutes to 4 hours, from msaccountsafety@microsoft.com. This email will contain a case number, usually beginning with “SIR,” to track the recovery process. Microsoft advises checking both the inbox and spam/junk folders for this communication.
The company cautions that successful account recovery is contingent upon the accuracy of the information provided and the existing security status of the account. Microsoft acknowledges that recovery may not be possible in instances where an account has been compromised and significantly altered by unauthorized access.
According to Microsoft documentation, the process is designed for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses, but the recovery form is being presented as a solution for regaining access to accounts.
