Michelle Mone has accused Chancellor Rachel Reeves of using “hazardous and inflammatory” language, claiming it has led to threats and abuse against her and her family. in a letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Mone demanded he clarify whether he supports Reeves’ assertion of a government “vendetta” against her and called for action to ensure her safety.
The letter, reported by the BBC, also requests an ”urgent, independent inquiry” into whether ministers or officials have improperly influenced the National Crime Agency, Crown Prosecution Service, and civil litigation processes. mone insists Reeves retract her comments.
According to Mone, the term “vendetta” – meaning vengeance, feud, or blood feud – has triggered a surge of antagonistic reactions, including a “meltdown” of threats on social media. She drew parallels to the murders of Labor MP Jo Cox in 2016 and Conservative MP Sir David Amess in 2021, warning of the dangers of ”reckless language.”
“Prime Minister, I ask you directly: do you stand by your chancellor’s assertion that the government has a vendetta against me? Or will you act decisively to end this campaign, protect my safety, and restore integrity to government?” Mone wrote.
She concluded by stating that a failure to act would leave her with no option but to pursue legal action, including claims of defamation, harassment, and misfeasance, alongside measures to protect her family’s safety.
