Michael Miles Named Acting Director of Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board
Michael Miles, currently Deputy Director of the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB), will assume the role of Acting Executive Director on March 30, 2026, following the departure of James Humm.
Governor Joe Lombardo announced Humm’s appointment as Director of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Energy on March 18, 2026, acknowledging Humm’s leadership in establishing the state’s cannabis regulatory framework. “James has made substantial strides in Nevada’s cannabis industry…,” Governor Lombardo stated, adding that Humm’s experience would be valuable in the energy sector.
Miles, a licensed attorney in Nevada, has served as Deputy Director of the CCB since January 2020, predating the agency’s formal establishment in July 2020. Prior to joining the CCB, Miles spent nearly four years with the Nevada Attorney General’s Office and also practiced law in the private sector. He is also a veteran of more than a decade of service in the United States Navy.
“I am committed to building on the strong foundation already in place alongside CCB staff, industry, and partners,” Miles said in a statement. “Stepping into the Director role is a privilege and a responsibility. I am committed to leading with clarity, transparency, and collaboration as we move forward together.”
During Humm’s tenure as Executive Director, the CCB oversaw the passage of a 60-page omnibus bill impacting the agency, completed a licensing round in White Pine County, and approved the opening of Nevada’s first cannabis consumption lounges. The agency also focused on updating the state’s regulatory framework, prioritizing education-based compliance, and addressing the issue of counterfeit cannabis. Ongoing collaboration with the cannabis industry regarding hemp and state taxation continues through the Nevada Cannabis Advisory Commission.
The CCB was originally established through Assembly Bill 533 during the 2019 legislative session, signed into law by former Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak. The agency’s mission is to govern the state’s cannabis industry through strict regulation, protecting public health and safety while upholding ethical standards for licensees.
