First Look: Michael Jackson Biopic Trailer Drops, Offering Glimpse into Pop Icon’s Early Life
Los Angeles, CA – The highly anticipated biopic about Michael Jackson has released its first official trailer, offering fans a first look at the film’s portrayal of the singer’s formative years and rise to superstardom. the trailer, unveiled today, showcases a young Michael Jackson navigating family dynamics, early performances, and the burgeoning pressures of fame.
The film, currently titled Michael, has been in growth since at least 2019 and faced multiple delays, now slated for release on April 22,2026. Developed by Lionsgate and distributed by Universal Studios, the biopic focuses on Jackson’s childhood and early career, deliberately omitting the most controversial aspects of his life for potential exploration in a sequel, according to co-executor of the Jackson estate, John Branca, in a recent financial Times interview. ”We are not trying to proclaim Michael’s innocence. The objective is to tell Michael’s story. What was his journey? Who was he?” Branca stated.
The trailer features newcomer Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson, alongside Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, and Miles Teller as John Branca. Director Antoine Fuqua previously stated the film would present “the good, the bad and the ugly” of Jackson’s life, allowing audiences to draw their own conclusions.
However, the project has faced criticism from within the Jackson family. Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson, has publicly disassociated herself from the film, deeming it inaccurate and perpetuating “fantasies” surrounding her father.
