Miami hurricanes Face SMU With Key Defensive Starter Ruled Out, Two Others Questionable
CORAL GABLES, FL – cornerback OJ Frederique is out for Saturday’s game against SMU, according to the Friday ACC injury report. The Hurricanes will also be monitoring the status of wide receiver Xavier daniels and defensive lineman Ahmad Moten, both listed as “questionable.”
Frederique, UM’s top cover cornerback, has totaled ten tackles this season and has been targeted 21 times in coverage, allowing ten receptions for 168 yards and one touchdown, according to pro Football Focus (PFF). He played a season-low 12 snaps against Stanford, excluding the Bethune-Cookman game.
daniels leads the Hurricanes with six touchdowns and is second on the team with 351 receiving yards. he is considered UM’s top outside receiver for the 2025 season. Daniels played a season-low 43 snaps against Stanford (excluding the Bethune-Cookman game).
Moten has been a key contributor to Miami’s dominant defensive line, recording 16 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack.PFF credits him with 17 pressures this season. He played a season-low 25 defensive snaps against Stanford (excluding the bethune-Cookman game).
Also listed as ”questionable” are rotational players LB Malik Bryant, LB Bobby Washington, and DL Mykah Newton.
Miami will be without several other players, including WR Chance Robinson, and tight ends Dylan Reiman, Jack Nickel, and Jackson Carver.Offensive linemen Ralph Scroggins and Demetrius Campbell, and defensive lineman Hayden Lowe are also ruled out.
SMU has listed running back chris Johnson, defensive end Cameron Robertson, and tight end Matthew Hibner as ”questionable.” Linebacker Justin medlock and cornerback Jaelyn Davis-Robinson are out for the Mustangs.
Miami defensive end Akheem Mesidor, who missed the Stanford game with a lower extremity injury, did not appear on the Thursday or Friday injury reports.
