MHI to Transfer Wind Power Business to Electric Power Development

February 10, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

TOKYO – Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) today formalized an agreement to transfer its domestic onshore wind power generation business, including engineering and after-sales services, to MWIND Co., Ltd., a newly established wholly-owned subsidiary. The move will ultimately spot all shares in MWIND transferred to Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. (Securities Code: 9513), according to a company statement released February 10, 2026.

The transaction builds upon a basic agreement announced November 7, 2025, and represents a strategic shift for MHI as it focuses its resources. While the core business is being transferred, certain operations, notably a joint venture with Vestas Wind A/S of Denmark, will remain with MHI. The transfer is structured as a simplified absorption-type company split, streamlining the process and reducing disclosure requirements.

Electric Power Development, similarly known as J-Power, will become the operator of the transferred wind power facilities. The financial terms of the share transfer were not disclosed. MHI’s stock price was trading at a price as of February 10, 2026, according to financial data.

The move comes as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries navigates a broader energy landscape, with a stated commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040. The company is also involved in a range of other energy-related projects, including rocket engines and human spaceflight, as well as services. MHI recently updated information regarding its participation in several industry events, including the 2026 AHR Expo, scheduled for February 2-4, 2026, and the SCA/HPCAsia 2026 conference, updated December 15, 2025. The JANOG57 event is scheduled for February 11-13, 2026.

MHI has also been active in updating information related to industry conferences such as PTC’26, which concluded January 21, 2026, and Supercomputing 2025, which concluded November 21, 2025. The company did not immediately respond to requests for further comment on the strategic rationale behind the transfer.
