Mexico Vaccination Card: How to Reprint & Why You Need It
Mexico is experiencing a surge in measles cases, prompting health authorities to emphasize the importance of verifying vaccination status. As of February 10, 2026, the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) is facilitating the reimprinting of lost or misplaced vaccination records, known as the Cartilla Nacional de Salud, through its digital portal.
The increased demand for proof of vaccination comes as several states grapple with rising measles infections. The Cartilla Nacional de Salud serves as a crucial document for accessing healthcare services, including vaccinations, consultations, and medical studies within the IMSS system. Its availability is becoming increasingly important, with some schools now requiring it for enrollment.
The IMSS has streamlined the process for obtaining a replacement Cartilla through its “IMSS Digital” portal. Individuals can now generate an official digital file containing their vaccination records. The process requires a stable internet connection and valid identification documents for data verification.
To reimprint the Cartilla digitally, users must first access the IMSS Digital portal or app. They then select the “Reimpresión de Cartilla Nacional de Salud” option. The system requires the user’s CURP (Unique Population Registry Code) and Número de Seguridad Social (NSS – Social Security Number). A valid email address is also necessary to receive the digital document. Users are then prompted to complete a CAPTCHA security check.
Upon submission, the IMSS will send a link to the provided email address for verification. Clicking the link validates the process and delivers the digital Cartilla. In Chihuahua, the cartilla is now a mandatory requirement for primary school enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year, following the outbreak of measles in the region.
While the digital Cartilla provides immediate access to vaccination records, individuals may need a physical copy, particularly for in-person medical appointments. After obtaining the digital version, users can seize the printed document to their Unidad de Medicina Familiar (Family Medicine Unit) to have it officially stamped and receive a modern physical booklet.
The IMSS is also offering assistance to those who have forgotten their CURP or NSS. These identifiers can be recovered through the “Datos Personales” section of the IMSS Digital platform.
Authorities continue to reinforce vaccination campaigns nationwide, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an updated vaccination schedule to prevent the spread of measles. The availability of the digital Cartilla is intended to remove barriers to accessing this vital health information.
