Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2: MGO Servers Won’t Return

February 15, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

The upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will not include Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer component originally bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Konami confirmed. The omission, revealed on the company’s official website, marks the first time the fourth mainline Metal Gear Solid title will be available on platforms beyond the PlayStation 3.

Metal Gear Online launched alongside Metal Gear Solid 4 in June 2008, offering a variety of team-based and unique game modes, including one where a player controlled Old Snake. The service was discontinued in 2012, but its absence from the Master Collection Vol. 2 has disappointed some fans anticipating a return to the online experience.

Despite the exclusion of Metal Gear Online, Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, also included in the collection, will feature online multiplayer functionality. Returning modes include Co-Ops, supporting two to four players, and Versus Ops, accommodating up to six players. Local wireless play will be available for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of the collection.

The Master Collection Vol. 2 will include improvements to Metal Gear Solid 4, such as increased internal resolution and a higher maximum framerate, alongside customizable controls. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will also receive customizable controls, though it remains unclear if it will receive similar visual enhancements. The collection also features Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel for Game Boy Color, which will include screen filters, pixel-perfect screen settings, a rewind function, and custom controls, but will not restore its two-player Vs. Battle mode.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on August 27, 2026, for PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders will grant access to the Cardboard Camouflage for Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Love Box uniform for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Players with save data from Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will receive the Gold Camouflage and Gold uniform as a bonus.
