MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University volleyball team returns home to hawkins Arena Saturday, November 1, to face Furman in a crucial Southern Conference matchup at 6 p.m.
Coming off a decisive 3-0 victory at The Citadel on Thursday, October 30, the Bears aim to continue their momentum against the second-place Paladins. Mercer dominated the blocking game against The Citadel, recording 12 total blocks compared to their opponent’s two. Sophomore middle blocker Joselynn Sanjurjo matched her career-high with six blocks, while sophomore libero Aubri Martin led the back row with 19 digs.Freshman Lara Matta powered the Mercer offense with 12 kills (.524 hitting percentage), and freshman Charlotte Thompson added eight kills. Sammi Bergjans orchestrated the attack with a match-high 24 assists.
Furman currently holds a 17-6 overall record and an 8-3 mark in conference play. The Paladins defeated Mercer 3-1 earlier this season in Greenville, S.C. They have also secured wins against The Citadel, UNC Greensboro, Samford, and western Carolina. Saturday’s contest will be streamed live on ESPN+.
