Kerala‘s Anakkampoyil-Meppadi Tunnel Project Advances with Prototype Model Handover
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala – A prototype model of the ambitious Anakkampoyil-Meppadi tunnel, a key infrastructure project for Kerala, was officially handed over at a ceremony held Sunday at thiruvananthapuram College of Engineering.The model was developed by a team of eight civil engineering students under the guidance of Dr.Jayashri and Teacher Anupama Krishnan.
The project gained momentum after the Konkan Railway company expressed interest in constructing a prototype, following discussions between engineers and students at Kozhikode NIT, then led by Principal Mathew. Construction of the model began in 2022, representing a significant step towards realizing the tunnel’s potential to improve connectivity and transportation within the region.
The prototype was formally presented by Viswanatha Rao, and the event was celebrated with the presence of Lintoamosph, MLA of the Thiruvambady constituency. The Anakkampoyil-Meppadi tunnel is envisioned as a crucial component of Kerala’s ongoing infrastructure development, aiming to address transportation challenges and boost economic growth in the region. the project highlights the collaborative efforts between academic institutions, like Thiruvananthapuram College of Engineering, and industry leaders, such as Konkan Railway, in driving innovation and progress within the state.
