Lindenwood Men’s Soccer Secures Season-High 11th Win, Shut Out UIW 2-0
SAN ANTONIO, TX – The Lindenwood University men’s soccer team achieved a program milestone monday, defeating the university of the Incarnate Word (UIW) 2-0 and securing their 11th win of the season – matching their highest win total in a single season in program history. The victory extends Lindenwood’s strong form and solidifies their position as a competitive force in the region.
The lions’ success marks a meaningful step forward for the program, demonstrating consistent improvement and building momentum as the season progresses. This win not only boosts team morale but also impacts their standing in conference play and potential postseason opportunities. Lindenwood will look to build on this achievement in their remaining games, aiming to surpass their previous win record and make a strong push for a conference championship.
Lindenwood struck first in the first half when Ethan Blake capitalized on a header from teammate Francombe, firing a one-timer past the UIW goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead. The Lions then exploded offensively in the second half, registering 14 shots, six of which were on target.
The second goal arrived in the 73rd minute following a sequence initiated by Luca Bartoni. Though his initial cross was blocked, Bartoni regained possession and delivered a pass to Alander Soares, who swiftly shot the ball across his body, finding the top of the net and extending Lindenwood’s advantage to 2-0.
Despite being outshot 7-4 in the first half, Lindenwood’s defense tightened in the second, limiting UIW to just four shot attempts. Goalkeeper Gavin Roberts delivered a standout performance, recording four saves and earning his fourth shutout of the year.The Lindenwood back line collectively allowed a total of 11 shots throughout the game.
