OWENSBORO, Ky. – Missouri S&T men’s soccer secured a 2-2 draw against Kentucky Wesleyan in it’s first road contest of the season Sunday at Panther Field. The result moves the Miners to 1-0-1 on the year, while Kentucky Wesleyan is now 0-0-2.
The match saw lead changes and a flurry of scoring chances as both teams battled for their first win of the season. This tie comes early in the season for Missouri S&T, providing a valuable point in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings and a test of resilience before returning home for a Friday matchup.
Andrei Paley put Missouri S&T on the board first, scoring his initial goal of the season at the 21:32 mark off a corner kick. Kentucky Wesleyan responded before halftime, leveling the score at 1-1 with a goal at 39:11.
The Miners regained the lead quickly in the second half as Luiz Bernis netted his first goal of the year within the first three minutes of play. However, the Panthers once again found the equalizer, tying the game at 2-2 at the 58:15 mark, a score that would hold through the remainder of regulation and overtime.
Missouri S&T dominated the shot count, finishing with a 17-9 advantage, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.goalkeeper Cavitt Bruhn recorded a season-high two saves, crucial stops at the 25:14 and 38:23 marks, to keep the Miners in contention.
Missouri S&T returns to Rolla to host Union on Friday, Sept. 12, at 2:00 p.m.
