HONOLULU, HI – The University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team will host the 59th annual OUTRIGGER Rainbow classic, a preseason college basketball tournament, this november. The tournament is the longest-running preseason tournament in the nation.
The classic will feature a field of teams including Delta State, Manhattan, and Utah Tech. Delta State begins the season playing 12 of its first 14 games away from home. Manhattan enters with a 1-1 record, having defeated St. Joseph’s (brooklyn) 125-59, before a loss to USC 114-83. Utah Tech started the year with a 2-2 record in a four-game, seven-day stretch.
Hawai’i sophomore guard Chance Trujillo was recently named the WAC Newcomer of the week, averaging 13.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. Trujillo previously played alongside Rainbow Warrior Isaac Finlinson at Snow College. Finlinson played his freshman season at Utah Tech while Gibson johnson coached there for two seasons (2022-24).
Along with the on-court action, Head Coach Eran Ganot will host the annual Coaches vs. Cancer mixer on Saturday, November 15, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Ed Wong Hospitality Suite at the Stan Sheriff Center. The event will raise funds for the american Cancer Society T.C. Ching Hope Lodge, which provides cost-free lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers receiving treatment on O’ahu.
