Ballarat recorded its wettest day in a year as storms swept across western Victoria on Sunday, impacting⁣ an AFLW match between Geelong and ⁢the Western Bulldogs.

The Geelong Cats ‍secured a victory against the Bulldogs despite challenging conditions at Eureka Stadium, with ‍players battling thru saturated fields. “The ⁣rain ⁤held off until the end, but it was like running in a swimming pool,” Geelong’s Amy McDonald told Seven after the game. “It wasn’t the best spectacle,‌ but sometimes you just have to win dirty.”​ The deluge highlights the impact of ⁣recent weather patterns on sporting events and daily⁢ life across the ⁢region.

Elsewhere,a separate storm caused‌ a 40-minute delay to the AFLW match between Carlton and GWS Giants at Ikon Park in Carlton on sunday afternoon,before play resumed ‍and⁢ concluded‌ safely.​ The conditions ‍underscore the increasing frequency of intense weather events ⁣and​ the need for preparedness across Victoria.
