Rome, September 15, 2025 – The Italian Ministry of university and Research (MUR) has announced an extension of the application period for the 2024/2025 medical specialization competition (SSM). The decision, formalized in Decreto Direttoriale n. 1210,provides candidates with additional time to finalize their course selections.
Reason for the Extension
The extension was necessitated by the time required for the Ministry of health to determine the total number of medical residents to be admitted, categorized by school type. This ensures accurate allocation and a fair competition process.

universities will submit registration data to Cineca between September 30 and October 7. Cineca will subsequently publish the registration results on the University portal on October 9, 2025. The postponement also applies to any potential extraordinary sessions.
