Medical Laboratory Technician – BILH – $37 – $49.80/hr

March 2, 2026 Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor Health

Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) is actively recruiting for laboratory professionals, offering a pay range of $37.00 to $49.80 per hour, according to a recent job posting. The position involves performing and analyzing a variety of laboratory tests, and reporting findings to pathologists and clinicians.

The role requires performing instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, quality control, and calibration procedures. Responsibilities also include preparing specimens for examination, conducting complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunological, microscopic, and bacteriological tests, and analyzing samples for various properties. Specific tasks include testing for electrolytes, enzymes, and drug levels in blood, examining fluids for abnormal cells, performing blood cultures, and typing and crossmatching blood for transfusions.

Candidates are expected to evaluate test results, enter data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and ensure accuracy. The position may also involve performing venipunctures and fingersticks, adhering to strict identification and labeling protocols. Continuing education and participation in competency testing and Quality Assurance programs are mandatory. Employees will also be responsible for contributing to the evaluation of new methods and procedures, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures.

An associate’s degree is required for the position, with 0-1 years of related work experience preferred. Proficiency with computer systems, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office suite, is also necessary. Clinical laboratory experience and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification are considered preferred qualifications.

BILH emphasizes the importance of teamwork, communication, and customer service in this role. The job requires the ability to make decisions based on established procedures, address routine problems, and work collaboratively within a team. Physical demands include light work, with the need to exert up to 20 pounds of force and periods of standing or movement throughout the hospital campus.

More than 500 physicians across Beth Israel Lahey Health were recently recognized as Top Doctors by Boston Magazine and New Hampshire Magazine, according to a February 18, 2026, announcement from BILH. The health system also requires all staff to be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment. BILH currently employs over 35,000 people, including nurses, doctors, technicians, and researchers.
