A province-wide measles exposure advisory is now in effect for all of Parkland County, Alberta, as health officials grapple with a growing number of confirmed cases across the province. The advisory, issued February 19, 2026, follows confirmed measles exposures in the Edmonton region and Peace River, prompting increased concern among public health authorities.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) confirmed 57 cases of measles have been reported in the province as of February 19, 2026. The North, Central, and South Zones are experiencing the highest numbers of cases, with 24, 12, and 27 confirmed instances respectively. Edmonton has seen 58 cases, although Calgary currently reports no confirmed cases. AHS has stated that due to the number of potentially exposed individuals, site-specific exposure advisories are no longer being issued in the South Zone and parts of the North Zone, opting instead for the broader standing advisory.
Individuals who are not protected against measles and who visited locations in south and northwest Edmonton on February 8th are being urged to monitor for symptoms. Confirmed exposures have been identified at the Edmonton Sport Centre and Axe Monkeys. AHS advises anyone born in or after 1970 who attended these locations to review their immunization records and confirm they have received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine.
The province is also recommending additional immunizations for specific populations. Infants aged six months to 11 months are recommended to receive an early dose of the vaccine, though they will still require their routine two doses after their first birthday. AHS is encouraging residents of the North, Central, and South Zones to check their immunization status.
According to Alberta Health Services, measles transmission is currently occurring throughout Alberta, affecting individuals of all ages. The majority of reported cases are among children under five and those aged five to 17 who are not immunized. A dedicated measles hotline, 1-844-944-3434, has been established to address inquiries regarding immunization records, symptoms, and appointment bookings.
As of February 17, 2026, AHS continues to update its list of exposure locations, urging individuals to regularly check the Alberta Health Services website for the latest information. The province has not yet announced any further preventative measures beyond the standing advisory and targeted immunization recommendations.
