McLaren denies “running out” Norris battery in the Belgium race

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

McLaren Formula 1 Team Principal Andrea Stella has revealed that a minor battery issue affected both of the teamS cars at the start of the recent race, impacting Lando Norris‘s performance and contributing to Oscar Piastri‘s overtake.

While the exact extent of the battery problem is still under review, Stella clarified that it did not definitively place Norris in an unassailable position against Piastri. “We are still reviewing the data, but these are the initial notes,” Stella stated.

The primary reason for Piastri’s triumphant pass, according to Stella, was the inherent difficulty for the leading car to secure the inside line into a specific turn. “It is not unfeasible, but to do so you need a clear preference at the end of the main straight clip at the beginning,” he explained. “Lando did not have this feature on the starting line in any way.”
