Utah Mammoth Lock Down McBain With $21.25M Deal
Forward avoids arbitration, secures long-term commitment.
Jack McBain and the Utah Mammoth have agreed to a five-year contract worth $21.25 million, solidifying the forward’s place with the team and preventing a salary arbitration hearing. The deal carries an average annual value of $4.25 million.
Key Details of the Contract
Last season, the 25-year-old McBain posted career highs in both goals (13) and total points (27) over 82 games. His performance has clearly impressed the team’s management, resulting in this long-term commitment.
“We are very pleased to sign Jack to a new contract,”
said Utah general manager Bill Armstrong. “He is a big, strong, physical player (6-foot-4, 219 pounds) who competes hard on a nightly basis and brings a gritty toughness to our group. Jack is an important part of the championship-caliber team we are building, and we look forward to having him back on our roster for the foreseeable future.”
Interestingly, NHL teams are increasingly looking to lock down players with similar profiles. According to a recent analysis, contracts for players with McBain’s skillset have increased by 15% in the last two years (CapFriendly).
Management Pleased With Versatile Player
“The commitment that both sides are making to each other in this extension tells you everything you need to know about the value and importance that has been placed on winning together,”
said Mammoth president of hockey operations Chris Armstrong. “Jack’s versatility as a player, his care for his teammates, and his demonstrated willingness to do whatever it takes to win, are all critical elements to our future team success.
McBain’s Career So Far
McBain, a third-round pick (No. 63) by the Minnesota Wild in the 2018 NHL Draft, has accumulated 82 points (35 goals, 47 assists) across 241 regular-season games playing for both the Mammoth and the Arizona Coyotes.
