Mayor Bowser Launches Summer Youth Employment Program

The 46th year of the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) is kicking off in Washington, D.C. This initiative gives young people in the nation’s capital valuable summer work experiences through subsidized positions.

Program Overview

The locally funded MBSYEP is available for those aged 14 to 24. Participants gain experience by working in both the public and private sectors. The program’s aim is to help youth develop essential skills.

The program is named after the former mayor and founder, Marion Barry. Participants in MBSYEP can earn money and gain practical experience. They also have opportunities to learn essential skills and discover various career paths.

“We are excited to offer this vital program again this summer.”

Muriel Bowser, Mayor of D.C.

Local employers support the program by providing youth with job opportunities. According to the Department of Employment Services, over 5,000 young people participated in MBSYEP last year, gaining skills and earning income during the summer months (DC.gov).
