Maya Jama Steps Down as Love Island Host After Nine Series
“What an incredible era and what an unforgettable time I’ve had, it’s been far too much fun to put into words or a video,” Maya Jama wrote on Instagram as she announced she is stepping down as host of Love Island after nine series.
The 32-year-old presenter confirmed her departure from the ITV dating show on Sunday, November 8, stating that it was time to “throw myself into something new.” Jama took over hosting duties in 2023 following Laura Whitmore’s departure, fronting the main series as well as companion show Aftersun and spinoffs All Stars and Games across her tenure.
Deadline reported that Jama addressed exit rumors in a previous interview, noting that the press frequently predicted her departure at the end of each series. Her exit announcement follows her appearance as a contestant on BBC One’s Celebrity Traitors, where she competed as a traitor, reaching the final before being banished.
She was absent from the special recording of Celebrity Traitors Uncloaked, with the host telling the audience she was away filming series three of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix drama The Gentlemen. In her statement, Jama thanked the production crew for working their hardest for months each year to bring the show to life.

Reflecting on her time on the programme, Jama told her followers that she would be cheering the team on from the sidelines. She has also expanded her business ventures outside of broadcasting, setting up a separate company and purchasing a property in the Cotswolds.
