Mavs on Pace for NBA Record Low 3-Pointers | 2026 Game Update

by Emma Walker – News Editor

Through three quarters of play against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, the Dallas Mavericks had made only one three-point shot, putting them on pace to potentially challenge the NBA’s record for fewest three-pointers made in a game.

The Mavericks, currently 19-33 on the season and 12th in the Western Conference, are struggling significantly this season, a downturn that began with the November 11th firing of President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Nico Harrison, according to reports. The team is now being led by interim General Managers Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi.

The team’s offensive woes come after a significant roster shakeup, including the trade of Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier in the year. That move, while intended to facilitate a rebuild, has demonstrably impacted the team’s scoring output. Dallas entered the 2025 NBA draft with the first overall pick, capitalizing on a lottery win – secured after a coin flip with the Chicago Bulls – and selected Duke University forward Cooper Flagg.

Flagg, who was recently named to the 2026 Castrol Rising Stars game, represents a key component of the Mavericks’ rebuilding strategy. However, the immediate impact of the rookie and the overall team performance has been underwhelming, as evidenced by Tuesday’s shooting performance. The Mavericks lost to the Spurs 138-125.

The Mavericks’ next game is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17th against the Phoenix Suns, offering another opportunity to address their shooting struggles. The team plays its home games at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
