Matty Healy’s Mom Shades Taylor Swift

Denise Welch Glad She Avoided Taylor Swift In-Law Role

Actress Reveals Mixed Feelings on Swift’s Album Inspired by Son Matty Healy

Denise Welch, mother of The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, has shared her candid thoughts on her son’s past relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift, expressing relief over not becoming her mother-in-law.

Dodging the In-Law Title

Speaking on “Watch What Happens Live,” the “Coronation Street” actress admitted she was “glad” she missed out on the potential role of Taylor Swift‘s mother-in-law following the couple’s brief romance ending in 2023. “Not being her mother-in-law is a role that I’m glad that I lost,” Welch stated, acknowledging the situation was “tricky” without expressing any personal animosity towards Swift.

Reaction to “The Tortured Poets Department”

Welch also weighed in on Swift‘s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which is widely speculated to contain songs inspired by Matty Healy. “Listen, you’re not allowed to say anything and then she writes a whole album about it,” Welch commented, adding that her son has “taken it all in completely good grace.”

Since their split, both artists have reportedly moved on. Matty Healy is now engaged to model Gabriella “Gabbriette” Bechtel. Welch enthusiastically approves of this new relationship, sharing her full seal of approval.

The intense scrutiny on celebrity relationships often fuels musical inspiration; for instance, in 2023, Adele’s album “30” was heavily influenced by her divorce, as reported by Billboard. This trend highlights how personal experiences can translate into widely acclaimed artistic works.
