Mattel Launches Bald Ken Doll to Support Children Experiencing Hair Loss
EL SEGUNDO, CA - Mattel has expanded its “Brave Barbie” initiative with the debut of a bald Ken doll, designed to offer support and representation to children facing hair loss due to cancer and autoimmune diseases. The announcement comes during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and builds on a programme that has already delivered over 120,000 dolls worldwide since its launch in 2013.
The Brave Barbie program was created to provide comfort to children who lose their hair during medical treatment. Both the Barbie and now ken dolls are distributed directly to children through nonprofit partners and treatment facilities, and are not available for retail purchase. Each doll comes with a wig and accessories including a hat, headphones,a headband, and a sticker pack.
Mattel confirmed an additional 10,000 dolls will be distributed this fall, delivered through organizations like CureSearch for Children’s Cancer. Families can also request a doll by contacting [email protected].
“By adding Brave Ken to the lineup, Mattel has expanded the program’s reach and reinforced its mission to provide comfort during difficult times,” the company stated.
