Masters Of The Universe Live-Action Movie Now Available on Blu-ray and 4K
Prince Adam’s journey from a reluctant young royal on the planet Eternia to an interchangeable HR manager on Earth arrived on home video this week, bringing Travis Knight’s live-action Masters Of The Universe adaptation to Blu-ray and 4K-disc following a disappointing theatrical run over the summer.
For more than forty years, Mattel’s toy line and subsequent animated series have maintained a presence in pop culture, starting with action figures in children’s bedrooms since 1982 and the 1983 animated show He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which became a ratings hit in children’s television primarily in the US, boosted Mattel toy sales, and spawned numerous spin-offs. On the big screen, the property saw an often-forgotten animated film titled The Secret of the Sword and a 1987 live-action comedy before this summer’s release under the direction of Travis Knight.

Following its theatrical run, the new film became available this week on Blu-ray and 4K-disc, alongside a 4K steelbook and a DVD edition, as reported by filmstarts.de. For fans seeking physical collectibles, a Collector’s Edition is scheduled for release on December 10, 2026, distributed exclusively through the Plaion Pictures shop, containing both the 4K disc and a Blu-ray copy inside a steelbook alongside various physical extras. Viewers who prefer streaming can also access Masters Of The Universe as part of the Amazon Prime Video subscription.

Cast and Creative Reception
The film follows Prince Adam, played by Artie Wilkinson-Hunt as a ten-year-old on the distant planet Eternia who resists his father’s wish to become a warrior, and Nicholas Galitzine as an adult HR manager on Earth, who loses his power sword after Skeletor, played by Jared Leto with his henmen, destroys the capital city of Eternos and forces Adam to flee through a portal. Later, he discovers the missing sword in a toy store. The supporting cast features Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, alongside Morena Baccarin, Idris Elba, and Camila Mendes.
Writing for FILMSTARTS, Stefan Geisler described the production as a Liebeserklärung an die Samstagvormittage meiner Kindheit
and noted that the visual effects and tone combine elements of Star Wars action with the humor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Geisler characterized the film as visuell erfreulich unangepasst
for celebrating the lovable madness of its source material with self-awareness and meta-humor as Adam is dragged back to Eternia into a colorful, comically pointed battle between good and evil.
Whether a sequel, teased in the film’s closing credits, will enter production remains unconfirmed.
