Marvel’s Future: New Films Scheduled Through 2029 & Avengers Updates

Marvel Studios has scheduled two new, currently untitled films for release on May 4, 2029, and July 13, 2029, according to a report by The Wrap. The announcement comes as the studio continues to build out its cinematic schedule, balancing upcoming releases with long-term project development.

The studio has also shifted the release date of another unnamed film from February 18, 2028, to July 28, 2028. This move suggests ongoing adjustments to Marvel’s production pipeline, as the studio navigates the complexities of its interconnected universe.

Disney and Marvel are preparing for a busy period, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day slated for July 29, 2026, followed by Avengers: Doomsday on December 16, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on December 15, 2027. These releases represent a significant push to revitalize the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following a period of perceived inconsistency after the high point of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which grossed nearly $2.8 billion worldwide.

Avengers: Endgame, released in April 2019, was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and starred Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and others. The film served as a culmination of the MCU’s first decade, attempting to resolve the narrative fallout from Avengers: Infinity War (2018), in which Thanos erased half of all life in the universe.

The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday is anticipated to feature the return of established characters, including Robert Downey Jr., and will serve as a test for the integration of newer heroes into the MCU. The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is also seen as crucial, with its trailer reportedly breaking viewership records.

Whereas several projects are in development, including a Doctor Strange sequel, a reboot of the X-Men franchise, Deadpool 4, and Black Panther 3, the status of Armor Wars and Blade remains uncertain. These films have been in development for years and are now considered to be in a precarious position.

Outside of the core MCU, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is scheduled for release on June 23, 2027.
