Rare Quarter Featuring Historic Park Sells for $40,000 at Auction
A 2020 quarter dollar commemorating the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park has fetched a remarkable $40,000 at auction, becoming one of the most valuable pieces in the “america The Lovely Quarters” collection. The coin, graded MS68 by PCGS,stands out due to its exceptional state of conservation and limited minting at the West Point facility in cupronickel.
While earlier emissions in the series initially held modest value-ranging from $1,000 to $1,100 in prime condition-this particular Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller quarter distinguished itself. Unlike silver emissions and other copper with nickel versions, this coin’s unique characteristics and provenance drove intense collector interest. The five-ounce silver version boasts 99.9% purity, a 76.2-millimeter diameter, and 155-gram weight, with lettering on the edge, and was minted in Denver (“D”), San Francisco (“S”), and Philadelphia (without a mint mark). The reverse of the quarter depicts a girl planting a Norway spruce seedling, designed by Donna Weaver.
