Phillip Island, Australia – Spaniard Raul Fernandez claimed his maiden MotoGP victory at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, overcoming a challenging race filled with penalties and crashes. The Trackhouse Racing rider took the lead on the tenth lap and held on for a historic win.
The race was marked by drama from the outset, with reigning champion Marc Marquez absent due to a shoulder injury sustained in a collision with Marco Bezzecchi at the previous Indonesian Grand prix. Bezzecchi, penalized with two extra laps for the incident, fought his way back into contention after serving his penalty.Francesco Bagnaia‘s late crash and a subsequent incident ending Jack Miller’s race further reshaped the competition.
Fabio Quartararo, starting from pole position, quickly fell to fourth, allowing Bezzecchi to initially lead, followed closely by Fernandez. Once Bezzecchi completed his penalty laps, Pedro Acosta took the lead before Fernandez ultimately seized control. Fabio Di Giannantonio finished second for pertamina Enduro VR46,with Bezzecchi securing third,followed by Acosta.
Bagnaia’s crash four laps from the finish eliminated him from contention, while a separate incident ended the race for local favorite jack Miller.
With three races remaining in the season, Marc Marquez leads the championship standings with 545 points. alex Marquez is second with 379 points, followed by bezzecchi (282 points) and Bagnaia (274 points).
