Mark Consuelos Returns to Live with Kelly and Mark After Toe Surgery

Surgery and Recovery

Consuelos underwent the operation on Friday, performed by Dr. Martin J. O’Malley of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. The host noted that he stopped taking prescription pain medication within about 24 hours and customized his knee scooter with a horn that plays The Cockroach.

Despite getting little sleep the night before because he and his wife Kelly Ripa’s dog was sick, Consuelos said he was feeling well. He admitted he had doubted his own quick recovery, stating, You know, we were giving the over-under whether or not I’d be here. I thought for sure there was a 90% chance I wouldn’t be here.

Origin of the Injury

Consuelos had first revealed his surgery plans during the Sept. 25 episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark”, telling viewers he was heading straight to the hospital after the broadcast. He shared that he had been putting off the procedure for about a year while dealing with arthritis and pain in his toe, joking that fixing the issue might help improve his golf game.

The host traced the condition back to turf toe from playing soccer years ago. He previously had a similar operation on his other foot roughly 15 years prior, noting that the earlier recovery had been especially difficult.

A Co-Host Role Reversal

The recent procedure created a role reversal for the married co-hosts. Ripa recently underwent gum graft surgery after delaying it for five years, leaving Consuelos to oversee her recovery at the time, as reported by USA Today.
