WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump has signaled he would support a primary challenge to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in Georgia‘s 14th congressional district, posting on Truth Social that “wonderful, conservative people” considering a run against her would have his “Complete and Unyielding Support.” The statement comes as Greene weighs a potential presidential bid, with some House GOP members suggesting she could emulate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s 2024 strategy of siphoning votes from the eventual nominee and leveraging that position for a future role in a republican management.
Greene rose to national prominence during the 2020 election cycle and quickly established herself as a controversial figure upon entering Congress in January 2021, known for provocative statements and challenging Republican leadership.
Previously,Trump had privately advised Greene against running for Georgia governor or senator, citing polling data indicating she would likely lose a statewide race, according to a senior White House official. Following this, Greene reportedly became an unexpected critic of Trump on several issues.
Trump publicly celebrated Greene’s recent resignation, stating, “I think it’s great news for the country,” and dismissing any prior notification from Greene, adding, “Nah, it doesn’t matter… but I think it’s great. I think she should be happy.” Greene had announced her resignation declaring that ”loyalty should be a two-way street.”
