Mariano Garcia Wins 1500m Gold at World Indoor Championships 2024
Mariano Garcia of Spain secured the men’s 1500m title at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland, on Sunday, marking a significant victory four years after winning the 800m at the same championships.
Garcia dictated the tempo of the race from the outset, establishing a cautious pace with a 400m split of 1:04.80 and reaching the 800m mark in 2:05.58. He continued to lead through 1000m, recording a time of 2:33.12, with world champion Isaac Nader steadily closing the gap to move into second position.
Nader maintained close proximity to Garcia as the race entered its final stages, but the Spaniard demonstrated resilience and maintained his lead, ultimately crossing the finish line in 3:39.63. Nader finished closely behind, securing second place with a time of 3:40.06, while Australia’s Adam Spencer mounted a strong finish to claim third in 3:40.26.
