Local Students Deliver Holiday relief with Generous Food Donation
MOAB, UT – Margaret L. Hopkin Middle School students delivered a significant donation of 674 pounds of food to the Grand County Food Bank this week, providing critical support to local families in need during the holiday season. The donation, totaling 578 items, was organized by the school’s eighth-grade Honor Society.
“This event is put on by the eighth grade Honor Society every year,” said Tracy Renn.
Students Bentlee Blackham, Ethan Burton, Abbie Cluff, Hadley Davis, Camila Falcon, Kymberlynn Jones, Nolan Knutson, Kash McCandless, Addie Penner, Sophia Smith, and Estelle Surkes volunteered their time to load and deliver the collected goods.
A friendly competition between advisory classes further fueled the drive, with Ms. McKimmey’s seventh-grade advisory class and Ms. Wilson’s eighth-grade advisory class emerging as top contributors, collecting 111 and 108 donations respectively. Both winning classes were rewarded with a breakfast of honey buns and orange juice.
Renn also extended gratitude to parent volunteers Tara Penner, Melodie McCandless, and Sarah Knutson for their assistance with loading and delivery. “MLHMS, you are an amazing group of kids, and thank you for coming together this year to support your local food bank!” she wrote.
The annual food drive exemplifies the school’s commitment to community service and providing assistance to those facing food insecurity.
