Huge Chief Paul Howe will present Mardi Gras traditions at the Mount Laurel Library on Thursday, February 12, at 1:00 PM, according to a recent post on the library’s Instagram account.
The presentation will feature images, facts, and music celebrating the Carnival season in Fresh Orleans, with a focus on parade floats, second-line marches, and the tradition of bead throws. Howe, known as Big Chief, will also discuss the history and significance of the feathered Indian costumes associated with Mardi Gras. The event is free and open to adults, and no registration is required, as noted in both the library’s Instagram post and a listing on the Mount Laurel Library calendar.
The Mount Laurel Library is also offering books about or set in New Orleans for those interested in further exploring the culture and history of the region, according to a Facebook post from the library. The library will be closed on Monday, February 16, for Presidents Day, and AARP Tax Facilitate appointments are currently fully booked.
The presentation aims to capture the “jazzy, funky, joyous music” and spirit of Mardi Gras, encouraging attendees to “Laissez les bon temps rouler!” – a traditional Cajun French phrase meaning “Let the good times roll.”
