At the change of command ceremony held at the AFP General Headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, President Marcos emphasized the necessity of a “modernized and capable” military force.
The appointment follows General Brawner’s tenure, which was defined by an increased frequency of resupply missions to Philippine outposts in the South China Sea and frequent confrontations between Philippine vessels and the China Coast Guard.
Prioritizing External Defense
The military is shifting its primary focus from internal security operations to external defense, involving the acquisition of advanced surveillance assets, naval vessels, and air defense systems to bolster its presence in contested waters.
According to reports from the Philippine News Agency, the military’s modernization roadmap remains a cornerstone of the current administration’s national security policy.
