Manga Planet too Shut Down Digital Platform in 2026, Focusing on Print
Tokyo, Japan – Manga Planet announced today it will discontinue its digital manga platform on March 31, 2026.The decision allows the company to concentrate on its print licensing and publishing operations under the Manga Planet and futekiya imprints.
The move comes as Manga Planet cites increasing challenges with payment processing and a shifting digital landscape. While the digital platform is closing,the company remains committed to bringing manga to fans through physical releases.
Manga Planet has outlined a phased shutdown plan:
* October 31, 2025: Sales of points, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month passes will end.
* February 28, 2026: Sales of 1-week and 1-month passes will cease.
* March 31, 2026: The Manga Planet digital platform will officially close.
* Late April 2026: Refund support for Manga Planet passes will conclude.
Regarding refunds, Manga Planet stated that points and purchased content will not be refunded. However, subscribers with active passes will receive a prorated refund for the unused portion extending beyond the closure date; eligible pass holders will be contacted directly before March 31, 2026.
Manga planet’s decision reflects broader industry pressures related to digital distribution and financial regulations. The company’s continued focus on print suggests a strategic realignment towards a more stable and established market segment.
