Bielefeld’s Central Library to Host “Manga Day” Celebration

Fans of Japanese culture, manga, and anime are invited to a special event at Bielefeld’s Central Library on Neumarkt, Saturday, September 27th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. “Manga Day” promises a full schedule of demonstrations, workshops, and interactive activities for all ages and skill levels.
The event offers a unique possibility to immerse oneself in Japanese arts and storytelling, catering to both seasoned enthusiasts and those newly curious about the world of manga. With free admission, attendees can experience live performances, learn from industry professionals, and participate in hands-on creative workshops.Registration for specific workshops is required and details are available online.
The day’s program kicks off at 10:30 AM with a live podcast presentation from “Romance Dusk,” a podcast team dedicated to manga and anime discussion. Following this,the Kyudo Verein Detmold will demonstrate the traditional Japanese martial art of Kyudo – archery – at 11:30 AM. Later, at 1:00 PM, the kendo Verein from Lemgo will present a exhibition of Kendo, another Japanese martial art focused on swordsmanship.
For aspiring creators, manga author Aljoscha Jelinek will lead a storytelling workshop from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, offering valuable insights and tips. The Splitter Verlag will also be on-site, providing a portfolio review service for artists working on manga, comic, or illustration projects.
Beyond the demonstrations and workshops, “manga Day” will feature a variety of interactive experiences, including karaoke, an Onigiri (rice ball) cooking workshop (with a five Euro participation fee), and numerous DIY craft activities. An Artistalley will provide a space for attendees to browse and purchase artwork, while free manga samples, courtesy of various publishers, will be distributed while supplies last.
