Manchester United Facing Crisis as Paul Scholes Questions Ruben Amorim‘s Tactics
MANCHESTER, England – Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has publicly criticized manager Ruben Amorim, stating the current squad lacks “quality” adn urging the Portuguese coach to alter his approach following a string of disappointing results. Scholes’ comments come as United prepare for challenging upcoming fixtures against Sunderland and Liverpool at Anfield, following recent defeats where they conceded four goals in consecutive away matches.
Scholes, an 11-time Premier league winner and two-time Champions league champion with united, believes a tactical shift is crucial for improvement. “He cannot carry on playing this way,he just can’t,” Scholes said. “At some point there has to be a moment where he thinks, ‘I have to change something because what I am doing now is not working and I am not getting results’. The proof is there.”
The criticism echoes concerns voiced by former United striker Wayne Rooney, who recently stated the team has “got worse” under Amorim, appointed last November following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
While acknowledging Amorim’s personable nature, Scholes emphasized the importance of results. “I like Amorim, with everything he says, he seems to be a likeable man. But unfortunately results paint a picture. At this moment in time it isn’t good enough. At this moment in time if results don’t improve, performances don’t really matter that much. He has to win some games or the pressure is going to come on him massively.”
Despite a summer focused on building a positive dressing room culture after a challenging previous season – where United finished 15th in the league and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham – some players reportedly harbor unease with Amorim’s tactical inflexibility. Though, widespread discontent within the squad has not yet emerged.
Simultaneously occurring,Amorim’s future is also a topic of discussion in Portugal. Joao Noronha Lopes, the frontrunner in the upcoming Benfica presidential election on October 25th, is reportedly interested in bringing Amorim back to the club where he played 154 games across six seasons. lopes attended Sunday’s Manchester derby alongside Pedro ferreira and Nuno Gomes, a close friend of Amorim and former Portugal and Benfica forward. gomes, speaking to Portuguese media, stated, “Ruben Amorim is the coach of Manchester United…But one thing I do know, Ruben Amorim will be the coach of Benfica one day.”
