MANCHESTER, England – A man has been named as teh suspect in a stabbing outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester, on October 2, 2025.The attack has prompted widespread condemnation and raised concerns about rising antisemitism in the United Kingdom.
The incident occurred as tensions remain heightened globally following recent events, underscoring the vulnerability of Jewish communities and the urgent need for increased security measures. British Labor Party leader Keir Starmer stated the suspect “attacked Jews because they are Jews,” characterizing the act as a direct assault on the community and a manifestation of antisemitic hatred.The attack impacts not only the immediate victims and their families, but also the broader Jewish community in Manchester and across the UK, prompting fears of further violence and discrimination. The Manchester Council of Mosques released a statement mourning the shooting and urging the public to avoid speculation. “The manchester Council of mosques is shocked and saddened to hear of today’s stabbing outside a synagogue in Manchester,” the statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the Jewish community at this distressing time.” The council emphasized Manchester’s history of interfaith harmony, stating, “Manchester has always been a city where people of all faiths and backgrounds live side by side. Palestinian Ambassador to the UK, Husam Zomlot, also condemned the “heinous” attack, tweeting, “No one should ever feel unsafe in their home or at their place of worship.” Zomlot added, “My deepest condolences go to the victims and families of today’s heinous attack in manchester. Violence against civilians must be condemned without hesitation or exception. We stand firm in upholding the rule of law everywhere, rejecting dehumanization, and affirming the equal humanity of all.”
