Late Drama in Champions League: man City Snatch Draw, Juventus Battles to Tie
MONACO – A flurry of goals across Tuesday’s Champions League fixtures saw dramatic late twists, including a 90th-minute equalizer from Manchester City and a hard-fought draw for Juventus.
Arsenal continued their strong start to the campaign with a 2-0 home victory over Olympiakos.Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the 12th minute, capitalizing on work by Viktor Gyokeres, and Bukayo Saka sealed the win in added time.
Villarreal and Juventus played out a thrilling 2-2 draw. Villarreal took the lead before halftime,but Juventus responded strongly in the second half. Federico Gatti equalized in the 49th minute after a play involving Lloyd Kelly, and Francisco Conceicao put Juventus ahead seven minutes later. Renato Veiga salvaged a point for Villarreal with a goal in the 90th minute.
Borussia Dortmund dominated Athletic Bilbao, winning 4-1. Daniel Svensson gave Dortmund the lead in the 28th minute, and Carney Chukwuemete extended the advantage early in the second half. Despite a goal from Bilbao, Dortmund added two more to secure a convincing victory.
Bayer Leverkusen was held to a 1-1 draw by PSV. Christian Michel Kofane gave Leverkusen the lead in the 65th minute, but PSV responded to share the points.
Elsewhere, Karabach AGDAM defeated FC Copenhagen 2-0, Newcastle thrashed Royale Union SG 4-0, FC Barcelona lost 2-1 to PSG, AS Monaco drew 2-2 with Manchester City - with the equalizer coming in the 90th minute – and SSC Napoli beat Sporting Lisbon 2-1.
