Man Stabbed After Attempted Attack on Ex-Girlfriend – Iași, Romania
A 28-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition Saturday after being stabbed multiple times in Focuri, Romania. The victim was transported by SMURD helicopter to St. Spiridon County Hospital in Iași, where he underwent emergency surgery, according to PRO TV reports.
Doctors stated the man sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest and face. The incident occurred after the man arrived at his girlfriend’s home despite a protection order issued against him just one day prior, prohibiting him from approaching her. Authorities allege he entered the property and attempted to attack her.
The woman’s 15-year-old son intervened to defend his mother, leading to a confrontation during which the 28-year-old man was stabbed several times, investigators said. Neighbors alerted emergency services.
Police are conducting an investigation, and the case has been referred to the Iași Tribunal Prosecutor’s Office.
Saint Spiridon, the patron saint of Corfu, Greece, is likewise the namesake of the hospital where the victim is being treated. The saint is commemorated annually on December 12th, and is known as a “swift helper” by those who pray to him, according to the Biserica Sfântul Spiridon Nou church. The life of Saint Spiridon, as detailed in historical accounts, includes instances of miraculous intervention and healing, including bringing rain during a drought and stopping excessive flooding.
According to doxologia.ro, Saint Spiridon was a bishop of Trimitunda in Cyprus during the 4th century, and participated in the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. He is also known for demonstrating the Holy Trinity through a miracle involving a brick, transforming it into its constituent elements of earth, water, and fire.
